The mayor of Gradefes (León), Leónides Bayón, passed away this Sunday, according to information from the provincial PSOE, which has expressed its “deep sadness and consternation” for the loss of the socialist mayor.

In a statement collected by Europa Press, the party has highlighted that with his passing “a good man leaves, deeply committed to his town and his people”, who dedicated his life to public service working for Gradefes “with honesty, closeness, and an enormous vocation of dedication to others”.

Recognition for his/her municipal work

From the Leonese PSOE, they have stressed that Bayón's management at the head of the City Council leaves the mark of a way of understanding politics as a tool to improve the lives of residents.

“His work leaves the example of someone who understood politics as a commitment to his people,” they have pointed out from the organization, which has also conveyed its “affection and embrace” to the mayor's family, remembering that he will be remembered for “his humanity, his commitment and his dedication”.

Message of Carlos Martínez

The general secretary of the PSOE of Castilla y León and candidate for the Presidency of the Junta in this Sunday's elections, Carlos Martínez, has also expressed his “deepest condolences” to the family and loved ones of the mayor, as well as to the residents of Gradefes and the socialist militancy of León.

In a message published on the social network X, Martínez has lamented the loss of the councilor: “Today a good man leaves us (…) May the earth be light to you, Leónides”, he has written.
