The candidate of the Popular Party for the presidency of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has exercised this Sunday his right to vote in the Delegation of Economy and Finance of Salamanca, enabled as an electoral center for the day of the regional elections.
Mañueco runs as head of the list for the province of Salamanca, one of the constituencies with the most weight in the regional Parliament and which elects ten representatives for the Cortes of Castilla y León.
The objective: revalidate the presidency
The leader of the PP faces these elections with the aim of revalidating the position of president of the Junta, which he has held since 2019 and which he re-consolidated after the 2022 regional elections.
In those elections, the Popular Party obtained 31 seats, which allowed the party to form a Government in the community with the support of Vox.
A decisive day for the political future of the community
The elections this Sunday will determine the new composition of the Cortes of Castilla y León and the balance of power among the different parties that aspire to govern the community during the next legislature.
Mañueco has been one of the main protagonists of the election campaign, in which the PP has defended the continuity of its political project in the community and has focused a good part of its discourse on economic management, rural development and the fight against depopulation.
Throughout the morning, the different candidates for the presidency of the Junta are going to their respective polling stations to exercise their right to vote and call for citizen participation on a day considered decisive for the political future of Castile and León.
