Napoleón Becerra García, aspirant of the Workers and Entrepreneurs Party (PTE-Peru) to the Presidency of Peru in the elections scheduled for next April 12, died this Sunday in a traffic accident.

The politician lost his life after an accident registered on the Los Libertadores highway, at the height of Huancavelica, just as a spokesperson for PTE-Peru, Emily Silva, has informed, in statements to the RPP radio station.

Becerra was scheduled to participate in a proselytizing event on Sunday morning in the district of Tambo, in the province of La Mar. However, the truck in which he was traveling went off the road, according to what the mayor of Pilpichaca, Balvín Huamaní, has explained.

The candidate was evacuated to a health center in the area, but died due to the severity of the injuries sustained. In the vehicle also traveled three other people who were injured, two of them in serious condition, and who have been transferred to Ayacucho.

Becerra ranks 22nd in voting intention in the latest poll released by “La República” and conducted by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) last Friday. No candidate exceeds 12 percent support, with Rafael López Aliaga (Popular Renewal, 11.7 percent) and Keiko Fujimori (Popular Force, 9.4 percent) leading.

A 35 percent of the people consulted do not opt for any candidacy: 16.2 percent do not specify, 13.6 percent answer none, 4.2 percent state that they will vote blank or null and 1.2 percent declare that they will not go to the polls.
