The Spanish technology company Indra and the German company Diehl Defence have reached a collaboration agreement to boost the development of air defense and missile systems in Europe, an alliance that contemplates the joint design of a medium-range, ground-based air defense solution, intended for the Spanish Armed Forces.

According to both companies, the objective of this collaboration is to combine their technological capabilities to strengthen the development of anti-aircraft systems on the continent and contribute to strengthening the European defense industrial base in a context of increasing demand for military capabilities.

The initiative will focus on the development of a medium-range ground-based air defense solution that responds to Spain's operational needs, integrating sensors, radars, command and control systems, and missile launch capabilities within a joint architecture.

Technological complementarity

The collaboration is based on the technological complementarity of both companies. On the one hand, Diehl contributes its experience in the development of missiles and ground-based air defense systems, including systems from the IRIS-T family. On the other hand, Indra will contribute its capabilities in radars, tactical communications, and command and control systems, key technologies to integrate sensors, control centers, and launchers into a single operating system.

This type of solutions allow creating multi-layer air defense architectures capable of detecting, tracking, and intercepting aerial threats at different ranges.

Strengthening of the European defense industry

The agreement is part of the growing trend in Europe to strengthen its own industrial capabilities in defense matters, especially in areas such as air defense and missiles, considered strategic in the current geopolitical context.

The cooperation between Indra and Diehl precisely seeks to advance in that objective, promoting European technological developments and reducing the dependence on external suppliers in critical systems for the security of the continent.

Indra strengthens its bet on defense

The alliance is also interpreted as one more step in the strategy of Ángel Escribano, president of Indra, aimed at strengthening the company's role in the field of defense and European technological sovereignty.

Since Escribano's arrival to the presidency, Indra has intensified its commitment to develop industrial and technological capabilities in Spain in key sectors for security, such as radars, command and control systems, air defense or unmanned systems.

In that context, the company seeks to consolidate itself as one of the central players in the European defense industry, promoting projects that strengthen both the strategic autonomy of the continent and the Spanish industrial and technological fabric.
