Oscar 2026: complete list of winners with Paul Thomas Anderson, Sean Penn, Jessie Buckley and Michael B. Jordan

The 96th edition of the Oscar awards has crowned ‘One Battle After Another’, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, as the big winner of the night with six statuettes. The gala held in Hollywood also left awards for Sean Penn, Jessie Buckley, Michael B. Jordan and the historic victory of Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the first woman to win the Oscar for best cinematography in almost a century.

The film ‘One battle after another’, inspired by Thomas Pynchon's novel Vineland, was the great protagonist of the gala. Paul Thomas Anderson's film took home six Oscar awards, including the most important ones:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson)
  • Best Adapted Screenplay
  • Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn)
  • Best Editing
  • Best Casting

For Anderson, it means his first Oscar after decades of career, after having signed contemporary cinema classics like Magnolia, There Will Be Blood or Phantom Thread.

Michael B. Jordan surprises Timothée Chalamet

One of the most commented moments of the night was the award for Best Actor, which Michael B. Jordan finally won. The actor beat the big favorite, Timothée Chalamet, who arrived at the gala with high expectations for his role in ‘Marty Supreme’, a film that ended up being one of the big losers of the night.

Jessie Buckley wins the Oscar for best actress

The award for Best Actress went to Jessie Buckley for her performance in ‘Hamnet’, adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel. Her performance was one of the most celebrated of the season and ended up clearly prevailing in the Academy’s final vote.

‘The Sinners’ wins four Oscar awards

The other big winner of the gala was ‘The Sinners’, which ended up taking four awards.

Among them stand out:

  • Best original score (Ludwig Göransson)
  • Best cinematography
  • Other technical awards

The award for Best photography also marked a historic milestone.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw makes history at the Oscars

Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to win the Oscar for best cinematography in 98 years of Academy history. Her work in ‘The Sinners’ was one of the most applauded of the season.

Amy Madigan opens the gala with the first Oscar

The gala began with the award for Best Supporting Actress, which went to Amy Madigan for her role in ‘Weapons’, where she plays the character of Tía Gladys. It was one of the most open categories of the night.

Spain is left without a prize with ‘Sirat’

The Spanish film ‘Sirat’ finally did not win any award in its two nominations. The Oscar for Best International Film went to the Norwegian production ‘Valor sentimental’, while that for Best Sound went to ‘F1’.
