The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published this Friday (consult the BOE of March 27, 2026 here) the cessation of the hitherto first vice-president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, and the appointments of Carlos Cuerpo and Arcadi España to their respective new portfolios.

In the cessation, which the BOE includes, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, thanks for the "services rendered" to Montero during her eight years as a member of the Executive. The former first vice-president now goes on to lead the PSOE candidacy in the Andalusian elections on May 17.

The BOE has also echoed the appointment of Carlos Cuerpo, in accordance with articles 62 and 100 of the Constitution, and at the proposal of the President of the Government, as First Vice-President and Minister of Economy, and Arcadi España as the new head of the Treasury.

Likewise, a general provision is also included in the BOE regarding the First Vice-Presidency of the Government, to which corresponds "the exercise of the functions entrusted to it by the President of the Government, as well as the presidency of the Government Delegate Commission that is determined in the corresponding royal decree".

Transfer of portfolios

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, and the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, will swear or promise their positions and will carry out the transfer of portfolios this Friday morning.

First, Cuerpo and España, will swear or promise their new positions before King Felipe VI at 09:30, in the Zarzuela Palace.

Subsequently, at 12:30 p.m., they will stage the traditional transfer of portfolios as first vice-president, in Cuerpo's case, and as Minister of Finance, in España's case, with María Jesús Montero, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance.
