Our governance model

Demócrata’s governance model is a pioneering approach within the Spanish media sector, demonstrating the publisher’s and editorial team’s strong commitment to the editorial independence of Spain’s leading parliamentary news publication.

Demócrata’s governance model is based on four pillars:

  1. Decision-making bodies

    1. The board of directors, whose primary function is to oversee the financial management of the publication and to ensure editorial independence and credibility.

    2. The standards and ethics department, whose role is to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures set out in the ethical codes and code of conduct through the management of the ethics channel and training sessions.

    3. The editorial team, whose role is to create and publish editorial content independently, reflecting the organisation’s founding mission: to report on parliamentary activity in accordance with constitutional values.

  2. Code of Ethics (download PDF

Demócrata expresses its firm commitment to the highest standards of conduct. Our Code of Ethics, together with the organisation’s mission and values, provides our employees (journalists, contributors, sales team) and directors with guidance on how to respond to various situations in such a way that the founding mission is not jeopardised, and long-term sustainability is guaranteed. The code of ethics sets out policies and procedures relating to conflicts of interest, risk management, gifts, the handling of confidential information, the management of the ethics channel, and compliance.

  3. Editorial Code of Ethics (download PDF

In light of the discredit suffered by the media in today’s digital environment, Demócrata is committed to the highest standards regarding editorial conflicts of interest, sources, verification and correction of information, and journalists’ participation in other media and on social media. These standards are based on international media best practices and are intended for the editorial team at Demócrata, as well as for the readers who place their trust in our publication and rely on us to provide accurate information.

  4. Transparency and accountability

Demócrata is committed to transparency, one of its founding values. In line with this commitment, Demócrata publishes relevant information on:

    1. The policies and procedures contained in the ethical and professional codes (see above).

    2. The Annual Report published by the Standards and Ethics Department (download the 2023 Annual Report)

    3. The declarations of conflict of interest (DACI) signed by the Chief Executive, the Director and the Director of Business Development.
