The meteorological situation in Catalonia has entered an active phase. The wind is a reality in many areas of the territory, where intense gusts are marking the day and forcing the activation of alert devices.

Civil Protection keeps the Ventcat plan activated due to an episode that affects the entire community and that will intensify over the next few hours. Gusts can exceed 90 kilometers per hour, especially in the north and east, where the impact will be more pronounced.

The north component wind is clearly prevailing and leaves a feeling more typical of winter than of the end of March.

La Costa Brava, under vigilance due to the state of the sea

The most delicate point is located on the coast of Girona. The Procicat plan remains on alert for strong swell in Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and La Selva, where the sea already presents complicated conditions.

The forecasts are being met: the swell increases and can exceed 2.5 meters, with special impact in areas such as Cap de Creus and Cap de Begur. The wind intensifies the state of the sea and turns the coast into one of the highest risk areas of the weekend.

The authorities insist on avoiding any approach to breakwaters, seafront promenades, or coastal paths, where the impact of the sea can be unpredictable.

Snow and blizzard: the Pyrenees enters winter scenario

As the day progresses, the episode extends towards the Pyrenees. From tonight and during Sunday, the arrival of snowfalls is expected on the north face, with accumulations that can exceed 10 centimeters from 900 meters.

The situation is not limited to snow. The wind will drag the precipitation and generate blizzard, reducing visibility and complicating mobility in mountain areas.

The regions of Vall d’Aran, Alta Ribagorça and Pallars Sobirà are the most exposed, with a scenario that forces to extreme caution on the road and in outdoor activities.

An episode that coincides with the departure of Holy Week

The moment adds pressure to the situation. The episode arrives in the midst of the Holy Week exodus operation, when traffic and road displacements increase.

Civil Protection has insisted on the need to consult the traffic status, follow official indications, and avoid risky outdoor activities. The wind, beyond its intensity, has a direct effect on driving and on urban safety.

The worst arrives between tonight and Sunday

The forecast indicates that the episode has not peaked. The wind will continue to intensify and Sunday will be the most complex day, with a combination of strong gusts, rough seas, and a thermal drop.
