The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has accepted the proposal of the president of Junts, Mònica Sales, to organize a summit of the forces with representation in the Parliament to reach a consensus on urgent measures against the economic consequences derived from the war in Iran. He has stressed that, given this scenario, a “unity response” is necessary.

He stated it during Wednesday's control session in the Parliament, after Sales demanded of him: “Convene a summit with the parliamentary groups to agree on urgent measures. Listen to the Parliament for once. Are you willing, president, or will you remain stuck in the negotiation of these mistaken and expired Budgets?”

Call “with immediate character”

Illa has replied that he accepts the initiative and that he will order to contact the presidents of all parliamentary groups to summon them “with immediate effect”, preferably before the end of the week, ensuring that any proposal put forward to face the situation will be welcome.

“I believe that the best response that can be given to this situation is a response of unity. And I am willing to listen to everyone, see the proposals that exist, and make approaches that are as unified as possible to face the consequences that this conflict may have,” he stated.

The president has defended that the Government and Catalonia as a whole are “in a position to respond to the negative effects” that the conflict may cause, and has recalled that on Saturday the Executive met with business associations and trade unions to constitute a permanent working group tasked with analyzing and proposing response measures.

In his speech, Illa has also reiterated the 'No to war' of the Government, has pointed out that other similar military operations have generated adverse effects and has called for a de-escalation of the conflict and a return to the sphere of “discussion, multilateral organizations and paths to solution.”

Junts' shock plan in the face of the crisis

Sales, besides insisting on the celebration of the party summit, has alerted the president about the impact of the rising cost of energy and fuels, and has criticized “Pedro Sánchez's position, ignoring that Catalonia, due to its economic weight, is the one who will suffer its consequences the most”.

He has also maintained that the accounts being processed in the Parliament do not adjust to the new scenario: “Wrong Budgets, designed by the Comuns, and expired for not taking into account the new international context. Wrong and expired. And even if he approved them, he knows that they would arrive late, in April, and would arrive badly”.

For this reason, it has urged him/her/them to rectify and has announced that its group will register a shock plan focused on “protecting businesses, the primary sector and the purchasing power of Catalans, with tax reductions to compensate for inflation, with direct support for affected sectors, and with measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the productive economy”.
