Polls on Iran: strong rejection of Trump in Spain although 56% would allow using the Rota and Morón bases

The military offensive by the United States against Iran generates strong rejection among Spanish public opinion, although there is division over the role Spain should play in the conflict. This is reflected in various polls published in recent days by SocioMétrica for El Español and Hamalgama Métrica for Vozpópuli, which draw a complex scenario of public opinion on the war and the relationship with Washington.

According to the SocioMétrica survey, 48.4% of Spaniards believe that the United States and Israel were wrong to attack Iran, while 42.5% support the decision made by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Strong rejection of Trump among the left and majority support on the right

The assessment of the attack on Iran reflects a clear ideological division. The majority of PSOE, Sumar, and Podemos voters consider the military intervention to be a mistake, while almost 70% of PP and Vox voters support the American offensive.

Despite this rejection of the attack, a significant portion of Spaniards considers that the Iranian regime poses an international threat. 67.2% believe that the Government of Tehran represents a risk to security in the Middle East, and 53.3% consider that this threat also affects Europe.

Majority in favor of allowing the US to use the bases in Spain

One of the most debated issues in the conflict is the use of the Rota and Morón military bases by the United States.

According to the SocioMétrica survey, 56% of Spaniards believe that the Government should allow the US to use these bases even for operations related to the Iran conflict. In contrast, 41.4% support the decision to veto their use.

The support for the ban is greater among voters of PSOE, Sumar, Podemos and nationalist parties, as well as among those under 36 years old.

Division on Spain's role in the war

Public opinion is also divided on the position that Spain should adopt in the conflict.

The 52% considers that Spain should politically and militarily support its allies, while the 44.5% believes that the country should maintain a position of neutrality.

In addition, 43% fear that the escalation of the conflict could lead to a world war, compared to 41.6% who rule out that scenario.

More than half believes that the clash with Trump harms Spain's image

The diplomatic confrontation between the Spanish Government and Donald Trump also generates concern in public opinion.

According to the SocioMétrica poll, 53% of Spaniards believe that the struggle between Pedro Sánchez and the American president weakens Spain's international image, while only 32% believe it strengthens it.

Majority fear of an economic impact of the conflict

Beyond the political and military dimension, the war also generates concern for its economic consequences.

According to the survey by Hamalgama Métrica for Vozpópuli, 56.8% of Spaniards believe that the confrontation with the United States over the Iran war will end up having a cost for the Spanish economy. Only 31.3% consider that it will not have relevant economic consequences.

The fear of economic reprisals is especially high among voters of PP and Vox, while the electors of PSOE and Sumar are more optimistic about the economic impact of the conflict.
