The internal tension in Más Madrid has escalated openly after a telephone conversation between the Minister of Health, Mónica García, and the deputy Emilio Delgado, about the party's upcoming primaries, which was revealed by the newspaper El País.
According to the reconstruction of events made by this media outlet, García contacted Delgado to inform him that on Saturday he would announce his candidacy at an event with militants, at which both would share the stage.
During the conversation, Delgado expressed his disagreement. In that context, García responded: "I didn't like Rufián's thing either", alluding to the debate organized by the deputy with Gabriel Rufián about the future of the left to the left of the PSOE.
A conflict that has been dragging on for months
The confrontation between both leaders has been brewing for months. Both García and Delgado have shown aspirations to influence the primary process, still without an official date, which will define the future of the organization in the region.
One of the main points of contention is the voting system. While the party leadership defends limiting the electorate to party members, Delgado and his circle demand expanding participation to sympathizers, which would significantly alter the internal balance.
The dispute has been exposed on La Sexta, where both have briefly but visibly exchanged positions this Monday. In that meeting, Delgado defended a more participatory model of primaries, while García insisted on focusing the debate on the confrontation with the right.
