The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, has stated this Monday that the resolution of magistrate Juan Carlos Peinado, responsible for the investigation of the 'Begoña Gómez case', by deciding to prosecute the wife of the President of the Government, "has embarrassed many citizens" and "many judges and magistrates" of the country.

As he underlined, "The damage that has been done to the good name of justice is damage that will surely be irreparable in many aspects", in reference to Judge Peinado's decision to put Begoña Gómez on trial for alleged crimes of embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business, and misappropriation, discarding the crime of professional intrusion.

Bolaños has reiterated that he maintains "absolute confidence" that a higher-ranking judicial body, "impartial" and "independent", will end up "revoking the decision".

The head of Justice has insisted that "This case where there is nothing, no matter how much it is stirred up, nothing can be established", in statements made to the press during an event presenting the 2026 call for SERÉ scholarships, aimed at those preparing for competitive examinations for judge, prosecutor, State attorney or LAJ.
