A fire declared this Sunday in the port area of Barcelona has forced to deploy a large emergency operation after affecting several merchandise containers in the area of Moll de Ponent.
Rapid intervention of the emergency services
The alert was received at 13:17 hours, at which point the Bombers de Barcelona activated an operation with ten units to contain the flames in the vicinity of the Pont de Europa.
The deployment has included tanks, water pumps, a ladder truck, support vehicles, command units, and an ambulance, in a coordinated intervention to prevent the spread of the fire in an area of high logistical activity.
Without injuries and with non-hazardous goods
According to municipal sources have confirmed, no affected persons have been registered by the fire, while from the port environment they have specified that the affected goods were not dangerous.
The fire has also reached some tractor units used in the terminal, which has generated material damages, although for the moment the total extent of them has not been detailed.
Visible column of smoke and dozens of warnings
The fire has caused an intense column of smoke visible from different points of the city, which has generated concern among the citizens.
The emergency phone 112 has received dozens of calls alerting of the event, a reflection of the visual impact of the incident.
Activated the pre-alert of the Procicat
Given the magnitude of the fire, Civil Protection has activated the pre-alert of the Procicat plan as a preventive measure, while emergency teams continue working to fully control the fire and secure the area.
