A explosion followed by a fire in a cafeteria on Alfarerías street (Almeria) has left one person dead and at least two injured, one of them seriously, according to municipal sources confirmed to the EFE agency.

The event occurred around 17:20 hours, when the 112 emergency coordination center of Andalusia received an initial alert warning of four affected people. After the alert, Firefighters, Local Police, National Police and 061 units immediately moved to the scene. The delegated councilor for Traffic, Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Almería City Council, María del Mar García Lorca, appeared to coordinate the response and supervise the evolution of the operation.

For the moment, the authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of the deflagration. The first hypotheses suggest that it could have originated from a gas cylinder, although the investigation teams continue working to clarify the facts. Meanwhile, a wide security cordon is maintained around the affected area and firefighters continue with the tasks of removal and control of the fire.

The operation has included the presence of specialist explosive ordnance disposal technicians (Tedax), as a preventive measure, and the medical attention of the injured has been prioritized. One of them remains in serious condition and another is awaiting evaluation, while health services guarantee immediate assistance to all affected individuals.

From local and autonomous institutions, solidarity with the victims and their families has been expressed and the commitment to strengthen security protocols in public spaces to prevent future incidents of this nature has been reiterated.
