The week starts with a clear change in the weather in a large part of Spain. The State Meteorological Agency has activated yellow warnings for storms in four communities: Catalonia, Aragon, Navarre, and La Rioja.

The focus of instability is located in the Ebro valley, the Iberian System, and the Pyrenees, where locally intense showers are expected, which could be accompanied by hail and very strong gusts of wind.

Where it will rain most intensely

The storms will not be widespread, but rather very localized and potentially intense. The areas with the greatest risk are:

  • Pyrenees, especially on its eastern slope
  • Navarre and Ebro valley
  • Areas of the Iberian System

In these points, the combination of accumulated heat and cold air at altitude favors more abrupt stormy episodes.

Dust and heat: unstable mix

To this situation is added another key element: the entry of dust from the western peninsular, which can cloud the sky and affect air quality. Meanwhile, heat continues to mark the general pattern. In large areas of the interior, temperatures:

  • Exceed or brush 30°C
  • Remain well above usual for April
  • Cities like Córdoba, Sevilla, Toledo or Zaragoza will continue with almost summer-like values.

Localized temperature drops

Despite the widespread heat, there will be clear exceptions:

  • Galicia: decrease in highs, with much milder values
  • Ampurdán: moderate drop
  • Canary Islands: notable fall, with drops exceeding 6°C

This thermal contrast is precisely one of the factors that fuels instability.

What to expect in the rest of Spain

Outside the areas affected by storms, the weather will be more stable:

  • Skies with few clouds or high clouds
  • Morning low clouds in the Cantabrian and Mediterranean
  • Light winds inland and breezes on the coast
  • In the Strait, the easterly wind will blow with moderate intensity.
