The Deputy Mayor of Madrid and head of the Security and Emergencies area, Inma Sanz, has insisted, after the arrest of Serigne Mbaye, that the regulations apply equally to any citizen and that “there is not one law for all citizens and another for the deputies of Más Madrid and Podemos”.

Serigne Mbaye, former deputy of Podemos in the Madrid Assembly and current secretary of anti-racism of the 'purple' formation, was arrested on Thursday afternoon along with six other people, after a confrontation with agents of the National Police.

In an appearance in Valdebebas, the deputy mayor has wished a speedy recovery to the national police officers injured in the operation and has taken the opportunity to emphasize the principle of equality before the law. “Respect for authority must be exercised by everyone and especially by those of us who are public representatives,” she pointed out.

Sanz has expressed his “support, affection and closeness with the agents who had to act yesterday in truly complex conditions” and has trusted that “the recovery will be the best possible”.

Furthermore, he has demanded clear support from the central Executive for the police officers involved in the operation. “And I hope that this time, for once, whoever is responsible for the National Police -in reference to the Government delegate, Francisco Martín- supports them and does not question them as he did in the Vuelta Cirista España,” he stated.
