The next national holiday will be May 1, Labor Day, which in 2026 falls on a Friday.

This allows to set up a direct three-day bridge throughout Spain without needing to take additional days, which makes it the first clear break after Easter.

It is not a long bridge like April's, but it is one of the most taken advantage of of the year.

What happens after Holy Week

Although Holy Week has ended, not all communities have closed the holiday calendar on those dates.
Easter Monday (April 6) remains a holiday in several autonomous communities, which extends the break in some territories.

In the rest of the country, labor activity resumes normally until May.

The national holidays remaining in 2026

The labor calendar sets eight national holidays common throughout Spain that cannot be modified by the autonomous communities.

After May 1, the following key dates remain:

  • August 15, Assumption of the Virgin
  • October 12, National Day of Spain
  • December 8, Immaculate Conception
  • December 25, Christmas

Some of them fall on Monday or Thursday, which opens the door to new long weekends in the second half of the year. The clearest long weekends on the calendar. Beyond May, the 2026 calendar leaves several opportunities for extended rest.

October 12 and December 8 fall on Monday, which allows for automatic three-day long weekends. In addition, December 25 falls on Thursday, which in many cases allows for extending the rest if it is joined with Friday.

Why 2026 is a good year for bridges

The distribution of holidays in 2026 favors short getaways. There are several long weekends spread throughout the year and some holidays close to weekends that facilitate vacation planning.

The bridge of May 1st is the first after Holy Week and one of the clearest on the calendar.
