The former socialist Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Westendorp has passed away this Monday at 89 years old after a long political and diplomatic career marked by his role in European construction and his prominence in the Balkans after the Bosnian war.

Historic delps PSOE, marked the career of Pedro Sánchez by offering him his first international opportunity in 1997 by incorporating him into his team when he served as UN High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Government has paid tribute to the diplomat through a message published on the social network X, in which he has highlighted his career and commitment to democracy and international politics.

In his publication, Sánchez has praised the figure of Westendorp, highlighting his key role both in Spanish foreign policy and in European construction.
