The newly appointed Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, has taken office claiming “continuity” as the axis of his management and placing as central challenges the reform of the autonomous financing model and the approval of the next General State Budgets (PGE).

“I assume this task with continuity and knowing that I have one of the best teams of the Government of Spain in this ministry, both the management and that of each and every one of the workers and of this house,” affirmed the new head of the Treasury after receiving the portfolio from María Jesús Montero at the ministerial headquarters.

With previous experience as Minister of Finance in the Valencian Community, Arcadi España has pointed out that, when taking on this type of responsibility, “you face incomprehension many times, loneliness in some decisions, and the obligation to think about the whole”.

“There are days when destiny catches up to you and today is one of those. It is one of those moments in which one does not stop looking for the permanent center of gravity that he sang. And today I believe I look for it with more fervor, if possible. You feel the affection, you feel the responsibility and you feel the vertigo,” the minister has acknowledged.

Spain has stressed that the challenges it faces “are great” and are aimed at continuing to strengthen the welfare state, economic growth and employment, maintaining as a reference the economic and financial stability of the Administration, the protection of the social shield, the promotion of new regional financing and the approval of the General State Budgets.

“I have always been guided by three words and they are also an example I have learned in this Government: To be polite, to be useful, and to be humble,” he remarked, also reiterating his defense of dialogue, empathy, and respect towards those who think differently.
