The president of the Association of Self-Employed Workers (ATA), Lorenzo Amor, has stated this Wednesday, that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has lied again to the self-employed, because it has not frozen the 2025 quotas for all self-employed workers, for this year 2026.
In fact -he explains on social media-, "a third of self-employed workers will see their minimum contributions rise in 2026 by 135 euros more per month. The Government -Amor insists-, does not rest in its attempt to 'rip off' the self-employed…. The contribution base increases by 42% (from 1000 euros to 1424 euros) from January 2026 for the more than 400,000 collaborating family members and the more than 800,000 corporate self-employed workers who have earnings close to 1000 euros/month. It's an outrage -maintains the president of ATA-, that will cost an additional 1,620 euros per year to each of these self-employed workers."
The Transitional Provision 7 of RDL 13/2022 of July 26 established a transitional period, so that, in 2023 the minimum base was 1000 euros for these groups, in 2024 and 2025 it had to be set in the General Preupupuestos, which never existed, and in 2026, neither.
A regulatory change without Budgets
Now -Amor reproaches-, "the self-employed cannot pay for the Government's incompetence in getting a Budget passed. The transitory nature of that Provision 7 is broken. And, now the minimum base of Group 7 of the General Regime would be applied -he adds-, establishing an inequality and breaking the principle of equity and proportionality of the Social Security System".
And furthermore -underlines the also vice-president of CEOE-, incomprehensibly the 2025 quotas are extended for 2026 to all self-employed workers, except for corporate and collaborating self-employed workers by applying this Transitory Provision, thus generating, this inequality among self-employed workers depending on their tax status."
"We are not going to stand idly by -warns the president of ATA-. In fact -he clarifies-, we have already spoken with several Parliamentary Groups to stop this savagery and find an immediate solution with retroactive effect from January 1, 2026. The Government can also, if it wishes, draw up a norm with the force of Law that avoids this rip-off for these self-employed workers. By the way, most of those affected -he points out- are women.
