It is expected that in the 2026 Income Tax Return Campaign 25,251,000 declarations will be submitted (2.1% more than last year), of which around 15.7 million (62%) will be entitled to a refund for an estimated global amount of 13,271 million euros. In the first 13 hours (i.e., until 1:00 p.m. this Wednesday, April 8), taxpayers had already submitted 843,000 declarations. And many will be wondering when the money will arrive in their bank account.

The Tax Agency has six months, from the end of the deadline for filing declarations, or from the date of filing if the declaration was filed out of time, to make the refund or to initiate a verification procedure for the requested refund. That is, they can be made until December 31, 2026 (in cases where it is filed within the deadline).

Obviously, that does not mean that taxpayers for whom the 2026 Income Tax return results in a refund have to wait so long, since the first refunds begin to be made within 48 hours of the start of the Campaign, ergo, next Friday, April 10.

Income Web

This year the campaign features, as its main novelty, an expansion of the potential beneficiaries of 'Direct Income'. This service for the instant submission of simple declarations is extended to new groups to reach nine million potential users, double the potential reach of last year.

While the potential beneficiaries of 'Direct Income' are expanded, improvements have been made to 'Renta Web'. The universal tool for filing tax returns has several adaptations this year to facilitate taxpayer assistance, continue gaining in usability, and also to avoid errors.

Regarding subsidies, and as a complement to the novelty incorporated in tax data of offering personalized information about a specific aid, the information available on 'Renta Web' is also improved. Likewise, the taxpayer is helped to avoid errors by applying tax benefits when they have dependent ascendants or descendants who must also file a declaration.

Regarding navigation improvements, accesses to the Declaration's data capture windows have been increased, interaction between sections has been increased, and the design of the payment and refund document has been improved.
