The Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, stressed this Friday that it is "fundamental" to deepen the transformation of the energy model in Europe and cut the continent's dependence on external supplies, in the context of the energy crisis caused by the war in Iran.

"We do not know how long it can last, nor the effects of such a significant destruction of gas and oil production capacity, but it is fundamental for Europe to continue betting on the transformation of our energy model and reduce dependencies on something we do not produce, but which we need for the well-being of people, families, and industrial competitiveness," he stated upon his arrival at the European Pulse Forum 2026 by Politico and beBartlet, held at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona.

Ribera has also insisted that it is key for the European Union to demand respect for international law and to take the opportunity to build bridges that facilitate the "recovery of the rule of law and the role of the United Nations Security Council."

"The initiatives that have been activated these last days are welcome and we trust that we can achieve progress in this area and reduce tension," he/she pointed out in reference to the progress in the conversations between the United States and Iran.
