Given the growing difficulties to leave the Gulf region due to operational limitations of commercial air transport, private aviation companies JustFly Executive and Millennium Jet Management, with headquarters in Girona and Seville respectively, have launched a joint initiative aimed at facilitating the safe departure of passengers to Europe through coordinated charter flights.
The service began operating last February 28 as a response to the current situation in the region and with the aim of offering safe and flexible mobility solutions to people who need to leave the area in a short period of time. Since its launch, there have been nearly 30 flights operated and coordinated, and it is expected that the operation will continue over the next few days depending on demand.
Departures are being coordinated from different points of the Gulf, mainly Saudi Arabia and Oman, adapting to the location of the passengers and the operational restrictions in force at all times. The flights transport passengers mainly towards different destinations in Europe, making in some cases technical or logistical stops in Egypt, Greece or Turkey before completing the final journey.
Complex logistics
The coordination of these flights implies a complex logistics that includes management of diplomatic permits, assignment of airport slots, coordination of handling services and planning of alternative routes depending on the operational context of each day.
According to Alfonso Galvez, manager of JustFly Executive, the initiative seeks to offer an immediate solution to those who need to return to Europe at a time of high uncertainty. “Our absolute priority at this moment is to facilitate a safe and organized way for the return of European citizens. By uniting the logistical capabilities of JustFly Executive with the operational experience of Millennium Jets Management, we have launched a private air bridge capable of offering an agile response to a situation that requires immediate action.”
The support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The management of both companies have pointed out that charter aviation can play a key role in contexts of geopolitical crises, as its operational flexibility allows organizing routes, schedules and aircraft more quickly than regular air transport. “Our objective is to offer a real alternative for those who are in the region and need to return to Europe in the coming days,” explains Gálvez.
In this regard, both companies also underscore the importance of institutional collaboration on the part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the consular representations of Spain to facilitate this type of exceptional operations. “Streamlining bureaucracy, especially regarding the streamlining of overflight permits, landing rights, and airport slot allocation, is fundamental for flights to operate with the speed required by an emergency situation,” they add.
