The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, held a conversation this Sunday with his Qatari counterpart to address the situation in the Middle East, with special attention to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic contact in full escalation

Through a message published on social media, Albares has informed that he has discussed the evolution of the conflict with the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

During the exchange, the Spanish minister has conveyed Spain's solidarity in the face of the attacks which he has described as “unjustified” by Iran, while demanding their immediate cessation.

Call to protect key infrastructures

Albares has stressed the need to preserve civil and energy infrastructures, in a context in which attacks in the region are affecting strategic facilities and increasing international tension.

Spain insists on the de-escalation

The head of Spanish diplomacy has reiterated the Government's position, demanding an urgent de-escalation of the conflict to avoid a greater deterioration of security in the Middle East.

Their statements are framed within a round of diplomatic contacts in which different countries try to contain the crisis derived from the confrontation between Iran and its adversaries in the region.
