At least four people have died and another 39 have been injured this Sunday as a consequence of the intense Israeli bombings on the southern suburbs of Beirut, according to Lebanese authorities.

Destruction in residential areas of the capital

The Lebanese Government has denounced a "widespread destruction" after the attacks, according to statements collected by the official agency NNA. One of the bombings directly hit a three-story residential building in the densely populated neighborhood of Al Miqdad.

The affected area is located near Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa medical center, where several of the injured have been transferred.

Eight waves of attacks in a single day

The Israeli air force has carried out at least eight waves of bombings since Sunday morning over southern Beirut, leaving visible columns of smoke in different parts of the city.

These are the most intense attacks recorded in the Lebanese capital since the start of the offensive last March 2.

Previously, the Israeli Army had issued evacuation orders directed at the population of areas such as Ghbeiri, alleging the presence of infrastructures used by the Shiite group Hezbollah.

More victims in the south of the country

In parallel, the Lebanese Army has confirmed the death of one of its personnel in an Israeli attack against the town of Kfar Hatta, in the Sidon region, about 45 kilometers from Beirut.

The deceased soldier has been identified as Corporal Husein Ali Nahle, killed “in the line of duty” on April 5, according to an official statement.

It is not clear if this death is part of the victim toll recorded in another bombing in the same locality, where the Ministry of Health has counted seven dead, among them a four-year-old girl.

Furthermore, another person has died this Sunday in a drone attack against a motorcycle in the vicinity of Rashidieh, south of Tyre.

A growing count of victims

Since the start of the Israeli offensive on March 2, at least 1,422 people have died and 4,294 have been injuredin Lebanon, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The conflict has also caused the displacement of more than a million people, aggravating the humanitarian crisis in the country.
