The authorities of Iran have reported this Saturday that planes from the United States and Israel have carried out new bombings in the country, reaching the vicinity of the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the petrochemical complex in the province of Khuzestan. The attack against the atomic plant has resulted in one dead, while in the industrial area no victims have yet been confirmed.

According to information disseminated by Iranian media, the impact in the vicinity of Bushehr occurred around 08:30 in the morning, local time (06:30 in peninsular Spain and the Balearic Islands), when a projectile exploded "near" a security fence of the facility.

"Due to the blast wave and shrapnel from this attack, one of the annexed buildings of the power plant was damaged and, unfortunately, one of the employees of the plant's physical security department died on the spot," a worker from the facility informed the semi-official news agency Tasnim.

"Initial investigations indicate that the incident did not cause damage to the main parts of the power plant and that its operation was not affected," the agency reported before recalling that this has been the fourth attack against the nuclear power plant since the beginning of the US and Israel offensive on February 28.

The Iranian authorities insist that the Bushehr plant continues to be operational and warn that, "due to the presence of significant quantities of radioactive materials, any serious damage could pose the risk of a large-scale nuclear accident".

In parallel, the Khuzestan Governorate has confirmed to the Mehr agency another bombing against the country's energy sector. The projectiles have hit the large petrochemical facility of Bandar Imam, "in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone", where material damages have been recorded, the extent of which has not yet been detailed by local authorities.
