Iran has hardened its position on the eve of the negotiations scheduled in Pakistan and has warned that the United States has not yet met two key requirements to start the dialogue.

The president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, has assured this Friday that Washington has not met the previously accepted conditions, among them the ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets.

"These two issues must be resolved before negotiations begin," Qalibaf stated on his official X profile, making it clear that Tehran will not take steps without prior guarantees.

A diplomatic process in the air

The demand introduces a new obstacle in a process already marked by mutual distrust and the escalation of tension in the Middle East. The talks, scheduled in Pakistan with international mediation, seek to lower the tension in the region after weeks of clashes and cross-attacks between different actors.

However, the lack of progress on key issues such as the conflict in Lebanon or economic sanctions threatens to block the start of the dialogue.
