A young Palestinian has died this Saturday after being shot by Israeli soldiers near the city of Hebron, in the southern West Bank, according to sources from the Palestinian authorities.

The event took place in the area of Jirbet Salama, west of Dura and southwest of Hebron. The victim is a 25-year-old man identified as Ahmad Abú Ghaliyé al Suaiti, who, according to these sources, had approached the Israeli settlement of Negohot.

The young man died at the same place of the incident, as has been pointed out by the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA. Israeli forces have retained Al Suaiti's body after the shooting.

For their part, the Israeli Armed Forces have explained that they carried out an assault against the home of a Palestinian "terrorist" who infiltrated the settlement of Negohot in the morning. The operation took place in the village of Fuqeiqis, the place of residence of Al Sueiti, who, according to the Israeli military version, was shot down in Negohot after entering the settlement armed with a knife.

During the search in Fuqeiqis, Israeli soldiers located a homemade pistol and other "military material", considering that the suspect "had planned to perpetrate terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers", the Israel Defense Forces.

"In light of the findings", Israeli forces have arrested a brother of Sueiti and handed him over to the Shin Bet, the Israeli secret services responsible for internal security and the occupied Palestinian territories, for interrogation.

In parallel, Israeli attacks with artillery fire continue in areas of the eastern Gaza Strip, as well as the demolition of homes in the eastern part of Gaza City.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), has communicated this Saturday a new victim count from Israeli military operations, after registering eight more deaths --seven new deaths and one recovered from the rubble-- in the last 48 hours.

The health organization has also incorporated 196 additional names to the official lists, once validated by the Martyrs' Approval Committee. In total, since the ceasefire of October 11, 773 Palestinians have lost their lives and 2,171 have been injured. Since October 7, 2023, the date of the start of the Israeli military offensive, the toll has risen to 72,549 dead and 172,274 injured.
