Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Jamenei, announced this Thursday that the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz "will enter a new phase," at a time of maximum regional tension after the recent truce between United States and Iran.
In a statement read on state television, Khamenei stressed that Iran "does not seek war", but warned that the country "will not give up its rights" and considers the various resistance fronts as a unified entity, in reference to its allies in the region.
The message of the Iranian leader introduces uncertainty about the future of one of the most important maritime routes in the world for global energy supply, key for the transit of oil and gas.
In parallel, Khamenei appealed to the regional community by pointing out that Tehran is still waiting for "an adequate reaction" from its neighbors to be able to "show them our brotherhood", in a statement that combines conciliatory tone and strategic warning.
