Tiger Woods was arrested after his Land Rover overturned on Jupiter Island, in Florida, after grazing a truck while attempting to overtake it at high speed on a two-lane road. According to authorities, the accident occurred shortly before 2:00 PM local time on Friday, March 27. No one was injured, but the incident ended with the golfer handcuffed and taken to police facilities.

The sheriff's office maintained that Woods showed signs of impairment, although alcohol did not appear to be behind the accident. The athlete passed the breathalyzer test with a negative result, but refused to submit to a urine test, which added an additional charge.

Of what charges do they accuse Tiger Woods

The former world number one faces minor charges, not serious crimes, for driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusing to submit to a legal test. The police kept him detained for eight hours, the minimum set by state legislation in this type of case, before being released on bail.

That nuance is important: for now there is no talk of a serious crime, but rather of a new judicial episode very damaging to his image, especially because it once again places Woods in the spotlight due to his relationship with driving, accidents, and possible substances or medication.

Why this case hits again his/her public figure

It is not the first time that Tiger Woods stars in an episode of this type. In 2017 he was already found by the police in his car and later ended up pleading guilty to reckless driving in a case related to medications.

Before, in 2009, he suffered another accident in front of his home in an episode that ended up unleashing the great personal scandal that dynamited his marriage and several advertising contracts.

In 2021, he/she suffered again a very serious accident in California that almost ended his/her career and even compromised his/her life.

That's why this new arrest is not interpreted only as an isolated event. It reopens a very well-known narrative around Woods: that of a sports genius pursued for years by injuries, personal falls, and comebacks always on the edge of the abyss.

What happens now with his return and with the Masters

The timing could not be worse for Woods. The 50-year-old golfer had just competed this week in the indoor TGL league, his first competitive appearance in over a year, and was still leaving the door open to play in next month's Masters in Augusta. However, after this accident and his arrest, his presence in the tournament is much more in doubt.

Woods also carries a very long chain of physical problems: he suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon in March 2025 and underwent back surgery in October. His last participation in a major was in The Open in 2024, where he missed the cut, and his last cut made in a major was the Masters in 2024, where he finished in 60th place.
