The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has reiterated this Sunday the 48-hour ultimatum launched on Saturday to Iran, in which he demands the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, he has warned that he will order attacks against Iranian power plants and has stressed that there will be “total destruction” if he finally carries out his threat.

In an interview granted to Israeli television Channel 13, Trump has insisted on the scope of his plans. “Soon you will see what happens with the ultimatum of the power plants. The result is going to be very good (...). The destruction of Iran is going to be total and it's going to work wonderfully,” the US president said.

During his statements, Trump has also lashed out at NATO partners for their refusal to intervene in a military operation, even in the Strait of Hormuz itself. “NATO countries are doing nothing. It’s a huge disgrace,” he criticized, before adding: “Iran has been very bad for 47 years and is now receiving its just punishment,” he argued.

For their part, the Iranian authorities have responded to the ultimatum warning that, if the United States comes to attack the country's power plants, they will respond with military actions against companies with American interests in the region and their “complete destruction”. Furthermore, they have threatened with the total closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz as retaliation.
