The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has launched this Saturday a harsh ultimatum against the Iranian Government, whom he has warned that he will order attacks against its electrical infrastructure if Tehran does not restore maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz within a maximum period of 48 hours. The warning comes after the recent Iranian attacks against ships in this strategic enclave, carried out in retaliation for the surprise offensive that the United States and Israel launched against Iranian territory last February 28.

"If Iran does not completely open, without threats, the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours from this precise moment, the United States will attack and destroy its various power plants, starting with the largest!" the occupant of the White House has warned in a post on the Truth Social platform.

Moments before, the former president boasted on the same social network of having “erased Iran from the map”, disqualifying the “small-time (Iranian) analysts” who maintain that Washington has not achieved its military objectives in the area.

“Of course we have (fulfilled them), and weeks ahead of schedule! Their leadership has disappeared, their navy and air force are destroyed, they have no defense whatsoever and they want to reach an agreement,” Trump illustrated before reiterating that he does not want to reach an agreement and that his strategy is “weeks ahead of schedule.”

These statements come after Trump himself insisted on Friday that he does not contemplate a ceasefire with Iran, assuring that the United States is “devastating” the country, when more than 20 days have already passed since the beginning of the joint offensive with Israel on Iranian territory.

In this context, Trump has described the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as “a very simple military maneuver” and “relatively safe”. “But a lot of help is needed,” he clarified, pointing again to NATO as a possible actor, although he criticized that, “but so far it has not had the courage to do so.”

In recent days, Iran's Revolutionary Guard has claimed several attacks against ships in the Strait of Hormuz, in response to the offensive against the Islamic Republic. In addition, it has directed attacks against Israeli territory and targets linked to the United States in the Middle East, including military bases in the region.
