The special envoy of the United States, Steve Witkoff, has expressed this Friday his confidence that delegations from Washington and Tehran maintain contacts "this week" with the objective of finding a way out of the war started almost a month ago, after the offensive launched by the North American country together with Israel against Iranian territory

"We believe there will be meetings this week. Without a doubt, we have high hopes," he stated during an investment forum held in Miami, in the state of Florida, where he stressed that the priority of the U.S. Administration is to open a diplomatic channel

Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz

The representative of the United States has also indicated that "the ships are crossing", in reference to the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran had blocked in retaliation for the attacks, something he has described as a "very, very good sign".

"I believe the president (Donald Trump) wants a peace agreement," he added, alluding to the White House's willingness to close an understanding with Iran

During his speech, Witkoff recalled the 15-point agreement proposed by Washington, highlighting that the Iranians "have had it for a long time" and that the U.S. Government is still waiting for "a response from them". "That would solve everything," he stated, in reference to the package of measures that the United States has put on the table

Red lines and guarantees on enrichment

"It would resolve the issue of enrichment, that nowadays we cannot allow there to be enrichment (of uranium) there. It would resolve the issue of material. They have about 10,000 kilos of enriched material stored, which they have to renounce; as well as the issue of storage and supervision. All these are red lines for us," he defended, before insisting that the United States does not pursue "the disappearance of the Iranian people"

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have confirmed more than 1,500 dead as a consequence of the offensive, among them high-level figures such as the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani; and the ministers of Defense and Intelligence, Aziz Nasirzadeh and Esmaeil Khatib, in addition to high-ranking commanders of the Armed Forces and other security service officials
