The spokesperson for Junts in Congress, Miriam Nogueras, has lashed out this Wednesday against the decree-law promoted by Sumar on housing matters, which includes measures such as the prohibition of certain evictions or the mandatory extension of rental contracts. At the same time, she has warned that the other decree, focused on tax cuts to mitigate the economic impact of the war in Iran, is “insufficient”, although Carles Puigdemont's party is willing to support it in Thursday's vote.

Nogueras has formulated these criticisms during the appearance of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in Congress, in which the head of the Executive explained the Government's position before the escalation of the conflict that is already extending throughout the Middle East.

The leader of Junts has stressed that a good part of the measures included in the fiscal aid decree had been “a long” time on the Executive's table and that her party has been demanding a tax cut for months to alleviate the pressure on families and businesses.

Even so, he has issued a direct warning to the president: “Mr. Sánchez, you are aware that the royal decree-law that will be voted on tomorrow is not sufficient. There are clear absences”. Furthermore, he has insisted on calling the Government's economic policy an “absolute failure”, with special emphasis on the area of housing.

Barcelona, converted into “experiment” of the Housing Law

In relation to housing, Nogueras has denounced that Barcelona has transformed into a kind of “experimental laboratory” due to the application of the Housing Law in the city. According to what she has reproached, after the entry into force of the norm the offer of rental apartments has been reduced by 90% and prices have increased by 63%. “They have destroyed the rental market”, she has emphasized.

Regarding the decree-law promoted by Sumar, the spokesperson has maintained that it is “so badly done” and elaborated with “so little rigor” that it will end up favoring precisely those it should not. In her opinion, with this regulation large landlords can extend contracts up to two years maintaining the old, higher fee, while the small owner is harmed because, if they want to recover their home, they have no possibility of doing so.

“With you and with your policies, families and businesses are paying for the crisis, while the Government dedicates itself to building and manufacturing headlines”, Nogueras has concluded.
