The spokesperson for Junts per Catalunya in Congress, Míriam Nogueras, has confirmed that her party will vote in favor of the anti-crisis Royal Decree-Law promoted by the Government, a decision that clears the way for its validation in the Lower House in a scenario of a tight majority.

According to what the pro-independence leader stated in declarations to TV3, the group led by former president Carles Puigdemont will support the text approved by the Executive, which includes a battery of fiscal measures to face the economic impact of the international crisis.

The decree contemplates, among other actions, tax reductions on fuels and energy, in line with the package of measures adopted by the Government to mitigate the consequences of the war in the Middle East on prices and consumption.

Voting conditioned by the parliamentary balance

The support of Junts is decisive for the validation of the Royal Decree-Law in the Congress of Deputies, after Podemos has announced its abstention.

In this context, the Executive needs to add new support to guarantee the approval of the norm, while the Popular Party still has not revealed the direction of its vote.

The Government appeals to the “responsibility” of the groups

From the Government, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and spokesperson, Elma Saiz, has called for "responsibility" from the political forces to support a package that she considers key to protect citizens and businesses in the face of rising energy costs.

The Executive defends that the non-ratification of the decree would entail the automatic fall of the fiscal and social measures included in the text, as it is an instrument approved by Royal Decree-Law, which requires the endorsement of Congress within a maximum period of 30 days.

Political pressure in parallel to the electoral calendar

In parallel, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that “everything seems to indicate” that his party will win the Andalusian elections, placing the focus on whether or not it will achieve an absolute majority.

For his part, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno, has warned that the main threat to revalidate that majority lies in the abstention of the electorate, in a context of high political competition.

The support announced by Junts once again places the party as a key actor in governance, especially in close votes in Congress, where its position can tip the outcome of legislative initiatives with high economic and social impact.
