The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, and the new head of Treasury, Arcadi España, have formalized this Friday the promise of their positions before King Felipe VI in a ceremony held at the Zarzuela Palace.

At the event have been present the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, in his capacity as chief notary of the Kingdom.

Later, at 12:30 p.m., the usual portfolio transfer ceremony will take place: Cuerpo will do so as first vice-president of the Executive and España as Minister of Finance, relieving María Jesús Montero at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance.

Reform of the Executive

Pedro Sánchez announced this Thursday the appointments of both to replace Montero, who leaves the Council of Ministers to run as the PSOE candidate in the regional elections in Andalusia, scheduled for next May 17.

Cuerpo, graduate in Economics (2003) from the University of Extremadura, Master in Economics from the London School of Economics (2004) and Doctor in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2017), serves as minister of Economy, Trade and Business since December 2023.

He has been part of the Senior Corps of State Commercial Technicians and Economists since 2008. In his career in the Administration, he has been, between August 2021 and December 2023, Secretary General of the Treasury and International Financing, as well as Director General of Macroeconomic Analysis at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, among other responsibilities.

Arcadi España held until now the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy. He holds a degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Valencia, a master's in Public Management and Administration from International Financial Analysts, and has developed part of his career in the private sector as a consultant.

España was one of the most trusted men in Ximo Puig's regional government, first as chief of staff in the first Botànic legislature, subsequently as head of the Department of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility and, finally, as Minister of Finance.
