The former president of Colombia Ernesto Samper has praised Spain's role this Saturday, considering that it is “the only country in Europe that understands the migratory problem”. In his opinion, the exclusion of Latin America will not be resolved without defending global citizenship based on rights.

During his speech at the Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM), held at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Samper advocated for citizenship as a “guarantee of rights, regardless of where people come from”.

Critique of the migratory system and message to progressivism

The former president also criticized an international system "in which the free movement of everything except people is defended," a situation that, he lamented, continues to set the global migration agenda.

He also recalled the expansion of progressive governments in Latin America at the end of the 90s, known as the Pink Tide, and maintained that the current Government of Spain is marking the "path" that progressive forces should follow.

Warning against "wokeism"

Finally, he warned against the risk of falling into "wokism," which in his opinion harmed Kamala Harris's campaign, and insisted on combining the fight against discrimination with economic redistribution through "a factor that identifies them, which is class."
