The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has expressed this Sunday his "absolute" repulsion, in his own name and that of the party, at the attempted attack against the president of the United States, Donald Trump, registered during the dinner of the White House Correspondents' Association at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the alleged perpetrator of the shots, a 31-year-old professor from California, was arrested.

"My absolute condemnation and that of the PP of the attack suffered by the President of the USA, Donald Trump. Political disagreement is resolved with words and not with bullets. Let's defend democracy," he stated in a message published on his X profile.

Feijóo's words are added to the statement of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who has also disseminated a message on social networks in which he has underlined that "violence is never the way. "We condemn the attack that took place tonight against President Donald Trump. Violence is never the way. Humanity will only advance through democracy, coexistence, and peace," he assured.

Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, were evacuated from the traditional correspondents' dinner after the U.S. Secret Service thwarted an attempted armed assault, an incident in which one of its agents was injured. For the moment, his condition is not serious and his life is not in danger.

Security forces have arrested the suspect, a 31-year-old man from California, whom the Republican leader has described as a "lone wolf" and a "person with serious problems" during a subsequent press conference. According to sources from the U.S. Attorney's Office told Fox News, the detainee is Cole Allen, a teacher residing in the town of Torrance, to whom two crimes are attributed: use of a firearm in a violent crime and assault on a federal agent with a firearm.
