The MEP and 'number two' of Podemos, Irene Montero, has reiterated that she is “delighted” with the event scheduled for next April 9 alongside the ERC spokesperson in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, and has stressed that she “would love to team up with him”. The meeting will be held in Barcelona and is part of the strategy of both formations to strengthen cooperation between progressive forces.

In statements to the media after attending the recognition of victims of the Board of Protection for Women, Montero has pointed out that “there are many, many people who are waiting for us to give them security and for us to give them the certainty that there can be a strong left in Spain that does the things that need to be done, especially in a time of crisis. People know that rents must be lowered by law, food prices capped”.

A "strong left"

The former Minister of Equality has insisted that Spain needs a “strong left” and has pointed out that it is already evident what kind of policies the Executive promotes when “only the PSOE is in charge” and “does not dare to do the things that need to be done.” In her opinion, it is necessary for left-wing forces to coordinate to push forward more ambitious social and economic measures.

Montero has also remarked that “I am delighted to be able to do this event with Gabriel Rufián, which will be on the 9th in Barcelona. I believe that what we have to offer people, especially people on the left, is the certainty that there are people who want to fight this battle,” making it clear that her objective is to offer a solid reference to the progressive electorate in the current context of crisis.
