The MEP and political secretary of Podemos, Irene Montero, has assured this Friday that the time has come to dialogue "with everyone", including Izquierda Unida and Sumar, and has urged to show "firm will" to "concretize" the broad front that she presented together with the parliamentary spokesperson for ERC, Gabriel Rufián.
In several interviews granted to "TVE", "La 2Cat" and "RAC1", collected by Europa Press, Montero has admitted that, after the event with the pro-independence leader, there is still "a path ahead" and has defended that said meeting staged a "will to work as a team" to mobilize around a "very clear objective": that in the next general elections there exists a "left with the capacity to transform" both in Catalonia and in the whole of Spain.
Asked specifically if she will sit down to talk with Sumar and IU to promote this unity project, the Podemos leader has reiterated that it is necessary to converse "with everyone". "The relationship and conversations always exist. What I believe is that we should not rush things," Montero has stressed, who has defended the convenience of closing agreements "when things are agreed upon" and it is "comfortable" for all parties.
In this vein, he has demanded respect towards the parties and their leaderships, in the same way as towards the unions and social movements, and has insisted on the need to act with caution and not "rush steps". "When we have something to announce, we will be able to say it, but we have to talk to everyone," he reiterated.
The also former Minister of Equality has admitted that she "would love" to run alongside Rufián in a general election, although she has pointed out that that decision will have to be made later, and has recalled that, in the case of Podemos, candidates are always chosen through a primary process in which "the people" decide.
"Do not criminalize the sharing of power"
In relation to the unitary candidacy of Por Andalucía and the criticisms of former vice president Pablo Iglesias, Montero has once again stressed that the priority is "to remove" the Andalusian president Juanma Moreno from the Junta and activate the progressive electorate ahead of May 17.
When asked about the configuration of the electoral lists, also within the framework of the broad front she promotes, she has pointed out that "the distribution of power is important" because, without that distribution, "things cannot be transformed."
"Criminalizing power-sharing does not usually help agreements turn out well," Montero has warned, who has stressed that "it does matter" who leads or occupies "certain positions" in the candidacy, since, in her view, "it can become decisive" in politics to promote social measures, sustain feminist laws or confront "judicial coupism".
