The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana (ERC) in the Congress of Deputies, Gabriel Rufián, has stated that he would be willing to get involved in the Andalusian election campaign if the left-wing parties request his collaboration, although he has called for unity among them: “What I am not going to do is an event with each one”.

In an interview on ‘El Objetivo’ of La Sexta, reported by Europa Press, Rufián has made clear that he contemplates participating in the election campaign of May 17 provided that forces such as Izquierda Unida, Podemos or Adelante Andalucía, among others, invite him. “I follow great spokespersons from those political formations,” he pointed out.

“If I can humbly help -I don't want to be the Messiah of anything either- well, I tell you yes. Now, what I am not going to do is an act with each one. Here, each one with their acronyms, but anti-fascism in everyone's home”, Rufián has defended, underlining the need to coordinate efforts instead of multiplying separate acts.

When addressing at another point in the conversation the idea of articulating a new broad left-wing front, he/she has reiterated that “it makes no sense that in each province there are almost always two rights and fourteen lefts”.

“I don't ask anyone to give up what they are. What I ask for is order and science,” Rufián insisted, who has suggested that the progressive space should be led by the “sovereigntist lefts” -like Bildu, BNG or Compromís-, with the aim of “dragging” the rest and building a confluence “without anyone ceasing to be what they are.”

Asked if in the future he could abandon his role as republican spokesperson to join a unitary list, he has made it clear that he intends to remain in his current position “until they kick me out”.

Rufián places Moreno as reference of the PP

In another part of the interview, the ERC leader has valued the figure of the PP candidate for re-election, Juanma Moreno, whom he has described as “the counterweight” to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and as the “future of the Popular Party”.

“He's a clever guy for whom not even the savagery of mammograms has meant much cost. I think what María Jesús Montero is facing is extremely difficult”, he opined about the socialist head of the list in the Andalusian elections and still first vice-president of the Government and Minister of Finance.
