The Government states that the petition from Manos Limpias, which seeks 10 years in prison for Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, for several corruption offenses, has "no value".

Sources from the Executive maintain that the indictment lacks legal and political relevance, as it comes from what they consider an ultra pseudo-union whose main purpose would be to persecute President Sánchez.

In Moncloa they interpret that this first request for a prison sentence against Gómez reinforces the thesis that there is an operation directed against Pedro Sánchez, something that the Government has been denouncing since the judicial proceeding began.

In its capacity as a popular prosecution, Manos Limpias demands that Gómez be sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison for alleged crimes of embezzlement and influence peddling, following the proposal of the investigating judge Juan Carlos Peinado to put Gómez, her advisor, Cristina Álvarez, and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés on trial.

Manos Limpias is part of the unified popular accusation, coordinated by Hazte Oír, which is the entity in charge of presenting a joint accusation brief on behalf of all the parties involved.

According to the indictment to which Europa Press had access, the organization maintains that Begoña Gómez "took advantage of her position in the Administration as the wife of the President of the Government so that, due to her condition, the rector of the Complutense University of Madrid would give the appropriate instructions for a chair to be established so that she could direct it".
