The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, retains his "full confidence" in his chief of staff, Eduard Rivas, currently under investigation by the justice system for possible irregularities committed during his time as mayor of Esparraguera (Barcelona).

Sources from the Govern have indicated this Tuesday that Rivas "is the first interested party in this investigation being clarified as soon as possible", thus ratifying the information advanced by 'El Periódico de Catalunya' about the open judicial procedure.

According to that newspaper, Rivas, who served as mayor of Esparraguera from 2015 to 2024, the year he became Illa's chief of staff, saw how the Mossos d'Esquadra confiscated his mobile phone last January by order of a court in Martorell (Barcelona).

The alleged irregularities are related to the Foundation for Labor Inclusion (FIL), focused on the integration of people with intellectual disabilities and at risk of exclusion, and suggest that funds from public contracts of the city council would have been used to cover private expenses of members of this entity.

From the Catalan Executive they underline that Rivas has expressed his "total disposition to collaborate in what may be necessary" with the ongoing judicial investigation.
