The PP will abstain in the vote in Congress on the anti-crisis decree

The PP recognizes that the decree incorporates part of its tax cut proposals and will not vote against it, but considers the anti-crisis package "insufficient," which is why it leans towards abstention

The Popular Party has revealed the direction of its vote on the anti-crisis royal decree-law approved by the Government and which will pass the Congress's examination this Thursday. Feijóo's party will abstain in the validation of the package of measures to face the increase in prices derived from the war in Iran for considering it insufficient and given that the Executive will not introduce significant fiscal changes, especially in the IRPF, that the populars desired.

In the PP, they consider that the package of measures is “insufficient” and criticize the government's lack of sensitivity to the loss of citizens' purchasing power. In this context, they reproach the Executive for not having proposed an adjustment of the IRPF despite the fact that, they maintain, Spaniards “have less” while the State “collects more”.

In their judgment, this negative aggravates the situation of “hundreds of thousands of families” affected by the rise in prices.

The PP recognizes that the decree incorporates part of its tax cut proposals, so it rules out voting against and leans towards abstention if there are no changes.

Vote conditioned to a reduction of the Personal Income Tax

The PP proposes a clear way out: the Government must commit during the parliamentary debate to reduce the tax burden on middle and lower classes through an IRPF reduction. “If they do, we will consider supporting the decree and voting in favor of its validation”, they point out, leaving the door open to modify their position.

Criticisms of the measures on fuels

The party also questions the effectiveness of some of the measures included in the decree, such as the reduction in the price of fuels, considering that they do not benefit those who do not use a vehicle but do suffer the increased cost of the shopping basket.

The abstention of the PP does not put the validation at risk

In any case, this position does not compromise the validation of the decree, since Junts per Catalunya has announced its vote in favor, which, in principle, would allow the Government to pass the norm in Congress.
