Vox will again bring an initiative this week to the Senate Plenary to try to outlaw the Basque party EH Bildu, understanding that its political actions "violate democratic principles, human rights, and seriously and repeatedly support terrorism". The proposal will be put to a vote, with the aim of the PP's absolute majority in the Upper House having to make its position clear.

The initiative, which Europa Press has had access to, is structured as a non-binding motion and also proposes the implementation of legal reforms to ensure the full compliance of sentences for terrorism offenses. Likewise, it calls for strengthening the prohibition of acts of glorification of ETA and advancing the investigation of the group's unsolved crimes.

The party led by Santiago Abascal recalls that the Organic Law of Political Parties contemplates the possibility of promoting "the outlawing of formations that support or justify terrorist violence" and highlights that both the Senate and the Congress of Deputies are empowered to initiate this procedure before the Supreme Court.

In line with this approach, Vox also demands that the Government approve regulatory changes that prevent the "flexibilization" of the prison regime applied to those convicted of terrorism, including the review of article 100 of the Prison Regulations.

On the other hand, the text of the motion expresses its support for the actions undertaken by the various public administrations to "preserve the memory of the victims of terrorism and repair the damages suffered by their families and by the surviving victims".

Vox links EH Bildu to ETA's past

In the explanatory memorandum, Abascal's party maintains that EH Bildu "cannot be dissociated from the trajectory of ETA" and underlines the presence on its electoral lists of individuals convicted of crimes linked to the terrorist organization. Among them, it cites the general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, convicted of belonging to ETA and for "glorification" of terrorism.

Likewise, Vox maintains that EH Bildu's parliamentary support for the Government has involved "political concessions" that, in its opinion, "affect national unity and the rights of victims of terrorism".

Consequently, the party insists on the "necessity" of rigorously applying current legislation to remove from institutions those groups that, according to the text of the motion, "maintain ties with the ETA environment".
