Changes are coming (and it seems for the better) in the operations of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). In an interview with its president, Miguel Ángel López, disseminated by EFE, he outlines the agency's reinforcement lines and states that "predictive capacity will be reinforced" and that Aemet will have "more scientific knowledge and better resources".

Aemet is the public body responsible for meteorological forecasting and monitoring in Spain. It depends on the State and its functions include the preparation of weather forecasts, the issuance of warnings for adverse weather phenomena, and technical support for civil protection in risk situations.

Within its activity, the agency works with observation networks and numerical models that allow it to anticipate the evolution of atmospheric weather. It also participates in international coordination with other meteorological services, within the framework of global scientific cooperation in meteorology.

In recent years, Aemet has been present in public debate in various episodes of adverse meteorological phenomena, where its predictions and warnings have played a relevant role in emergency management. In that context, improving prediction capacity has become a usual line of institutional work.
