The judge has imposed a sentence of twelve years and ten months in prison on the man found guilty of murdering his flatmate with treachery and desecrating his corpse in Piera (Barcelona) in 2022. The verdict comes after the jury unanimously found him guilty on May 13, the date on which the trial concluded at the Barcelona Court.
According to the sentence consulted by Europa Press, the magistrate adds a supervised release measure of 5 years once the sentence is served, a prohibition from approaching within 1,000 meters of the deceased's sister's home, and the payment of a global compensation of 130,000 euros: 100,000 euros for the mother and 30,000 euros for the victim's uncle.
Sources close to the case have indicated to Europa Press that the jury ruled out the existence of cruelty during the crime, understanding that the accused did not act with the intention of increasing the victim's suffering.
The resolution details that the accused inflicted up to 16 blows to the head of his flatmate while he was sleeping, causing his death, with "all of them being vital wounds," as stated by the magistrate, who also takes into consideration the friendship and cohabitation relationship they maintained.
After the homicide, the accused, using a saw or other cutting tool, divided the victim's body into two parts and left each of them in two locations near the dwelling, separated by 1.5 kilometers: one in the Ca n'Aguilera stream and the other in a vacant lot.
The Public Prosecutor's Office had requested a sentence of 23 years in prison for the accused, who has been in provisional detention since December 20, 2022, for murder with treachery and cruelty, and an additional 5 months for desecration of a corpse, in addition to compensation of 150,000 euros for the deceased's relatives.
