The magistrate of the Audiencia Nacional José Luis Calama has decided to open proceedings against former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in the 'Plus Ultra case' for alleged crimes of money laundering and influence peddling, according to sources familiar with the proceedings told Europa Press.

Calama is analyzing the possible misuse of the 53 million euros that the Executive granted to the airline Plus Ultra as a bailout during the health crisis.

The judge has summoned Zapatero as a defendant for next June 2 and has ordered the search of the former head of the Executive's office, as well as three other commercial companies, proceedings that are currently being carried out.

Likewise, the investigating judge has agreed to lift the secrecy of the investigation, according to the same sources consulted.
