The Spanish journalist and writer Raúl del Pozo has passed away at 89 years old, as confirmed by El Mundo, a medium in which he continued writing until just two months ago in his column "The noise of the street".

Born in Mariana (Cuenca) in 1936, Del Pozo began his journalistic career in the early sixties and very early on became a key signature in the press of the Transition. In recent decades, his figure has been linked to opinion journalism. His ironic style on political and social current affairs served him to be one of the most recognizable signatures in opinion journalism in Spain.

He began his career at Diario de Cuenca and made a name for himself at the newspaper Pueblo. Afterwards, he worked for publications such as Mundo Obrero, Interviú, or Diario 16. He also worked as a correspondent in Moscow, London, Lisbon, or Buenos Aires.

In addition to his journalistic work, he is the author of works as as Night of Gamblers, Levitical City or The Lure. His career was recognized with some of the most prestigious awards in Spanish journalism, among them the Mariano de Cavia Award, the Francisco Cerecedo and the González Ruano.

Throughout his life, he also participated in radio and television programs, and established himself as one of the most influential voices in political and cultural commentary in Spain.
