The Holy See has made public this Wednesday the official program of the trip of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, which will be held from June 6 to 12 and will include stops in Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. It is a visit of a marked pastoral nature in which the Pontiff will travel nearly 2,500 kilometers in six days.
The itinerary contemplates a total of 21 acts, in which the Pope will intervene on 17 occasions with speeches and homilies. According to Vatican sources, the agenda revolves around three main axes: charity, the Eucharist, and the encounter with different sectors of society.
June 6:
The visit will begin on June 6 in Madrid, with the arrival of the Pontiff at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, where he will be received by the King and Queen. Subsequently, an institutional event will take place at the Royal Palace. That same day, Leo XIV will visit a center for the homeless run by Cáritas and will participate in a vigil with young people in Plaza de Lima.
June 7:
On Sunday the 7th, the feast of Corpus Christi, he will preside over a mass in Cibeles Square and a Eucharistic procession.
June 8:
Monday the 8th includes institutional meetings with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and an address to the Spanish Parliament, an unprecedented event in Spain. He will also meet with bishops at the Spanish Episcopal Conference and lead religious events at the Cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
June 9:
The Madrid stage will conclude on June 9 with a meeting with volunteers before its transfer to Barcelona. Once in the Catalan capital, the Pope will pray in the cathedral and preside over a vigil at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
June 10:
On the 10th, he will visit the Brians 1 penitentiary center and the Montserrat Abbey, where he will lead the recitation of the Rosary. The day will culminate with a Mass in the Sagrada Familia Basilica, after which he will inaugurate the Tower of Jesus Christ of the emblematic temple designed by Antoni Gaudí.
June 11:
On June 11, Leo XIV will travel to the Canary Islands, which will be the first visit of a Pope to the archipelago. In Gran Canaria, he will go to the port of Arguineguín to learn about the migratory reality and will meet with pastoral agents at the Cathedral of Santa Ana. The day will conclude with a mass at the Gran Canaria Stadium.
June 12:
On June 12, he will travel to Tenerife where he will visit a migrant reception center and hold a meeting with social entities in La Laguna. The trip will conclude with a eucharist in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and his subsequent return to Rome.
With this tour, the Pope seeks to “meet everyone, listen to everyone, and speak to everyone,” on a trip that combines institutional acts, liturgical celebrations, and social encounters in different parts of the country.
